Best Albums 2006

I was going to make a big deal of this list. I was going to write little reviews and cut out album covers and make it all very pretty, but Billy has the flu and it doesn’t look like it is going away any time soon.

So here is my bare little list. I hear screaming, I have to go.

1. Destroyer – Destroyer’s Rubies
2. Midlake – The Trials of Van Occupanther
3. The Knife – Silent Shout
4. Beirut – Gulag Orkestar
5. Belle & Sebastian – The Life Pursuit
6. Bob Dylan – Modern Times

7. Joanna Newsom – Ys

8. Morrissey – Ringleader of the Tormentors
9. Mates of State – Bring it Back
10. Johnny Cash – American V: A Hundred Highways

I do like writing about music though, I’ll try and do more of it in 2007.

  1. I just shared your list with Eric, and he heartily agrees with most of your rankings. He also wants me to tell you that we’re going tonight to see a Muscadine reunion show. And, are you familiar with the Benji Hughes website (myspace.com/benjihughes)? Eric thinks you’ll like it…I particularly like the song about the Mummy (“When the mummy gets drunk he unravels.”)

  2. Right, I’m slightly belatedly going with:

    1. Jens Lekman – Oh You’re So Silent Jens
    2. James Yorkston – Year of the Leopard
    3. CSS – Cansei de Ser Sexy
    4. Camera Obscura – Let’s Get Out of this Country
    5. Lily Allen – Alright, Still
    6. Phoenix – It’s Never Been Like That
    7. Mojave 3 – Puzzles Like You
    8. Midlake – The Trials of Van Occupanther
    9. Regina Spector – Begin to Hope
    10. The Long Blondes – Someone to Drive You Home
