Ghost Town

I was reading the Rochdale Observer this morning. Not something I do on a regular basis, but it is always interesting to see what’s happening in my hometown.
I found out there is not a lot happening. Quite literally. The shopping centre in the town is the 3rd worst hit in the country by the recession and many of the shops have closed down. We told Billy about this; that my hometown was becoming a ghost town; and he was very excited. He asked if we could move there immediately. I am sure my mum will be pleased to hear this.
Instead, we went to Coney Island and given the dismal weather and the fact they are tearing the place down, we got to see a ghost town after all.
Between bouts of whining, Billy managed to have a little fun anyway.
UPDATE: There’s a little life in Coney Island still…

Watching Real Time with Bill Maher this evening was like going to a dinner party with Billy in tow. Two adults clammering for adult conversation and one errant child demanding constant attention.
Both Salman Rushdie and Christopher Hitchens were on together. My dream Real Time line up; two of the greatest public intellectuals in the world. And Mos Def. After an hour of Mos Def’s endless pointless banalities we were frustrated beyond belief and so desperate to hear what Christopher Hitchens and Salman Rushdie might have to say we went online to watch the 10 minute Overtime section they do.
